McGillicafey's Pub and Eatery is a popular dining location located in Hastings, Ontario. (Highway 45, 30 minutes from Cobourg and Peterborough) Although located in a small community, McGillicafey's Pub and Eatery offers a 'big city' atmosphere with contemporary decor, unique food style, craft beer & signature cocktails, live music and more. We pride ourselves with offering award-winning service & food thanks to the amazing management and staff that are employed with us. Both our service and culinary teams have received top marks on all popular restaurant rating sites and we continue to raise the bar as we head towards our sixth year in business.

As we continue to grow and expand we are looking for a new member to join our team to assist our Head Chef with managerial duties, kitchen supervising and cooking. This position will be a full-time, salary based position with opportunity to grow within the company. We are looking for an individual who can lead a team, take initiative, work well with others, take direction from upper management and who is punctual and reliable. This individual must be available to work days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Chef Assistant Job Responsibilities:

  • Weekly food inventory

  • Track and correct food waste issues

  • General cleanliness and organization including cold & dry storage areas

  • Food order entry assistance

  • Training of new staff

  • Direct food preparation and collaborate with Head Chef

  • Assist in design and launch of food menus

  • Supervise kitchen staff

  • Assist with kitchen management under Head Chef direction

$34 000/year + gratuities

Chef Assistant Qualifications/Skills:

  • Knowledge of various cooking methods, ingredients, and procedures

  • Management skills

  • Familiarity with industry’s best practices

  • Leadership

  • Creativity

  • Hand-eye coordination

  • Time-management skills

  • Decision making

  • Able to work under pressure

  • Ability to manage uncertainty and change

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Hospitality & Food training is an asset

  • 2+ years working in a commercial kitchen
